GLOBAL STUDIO

April 9th - 20th June 2010

The Royal Standard are pleased to announce their participation in GLOBALSTUDIO at the Bluecoat, Liverpool.

From Linz to Liverpool, artists from different parts of the world will be collaborating for the Bluecoat’s new exhibition. Global Studio showcases the work of Liverpool artists who have forged international networks outside the city, alongside their global colleagues.

Part 1: April 9th - April 20th 2010

The Royal Standard studio artists exhibit their work in the Bluecoat Gallery. Artists participating include; Stephen Forge, Sam Venables, Richard Profitt, Madeline Hall, Lucy MacDonald, Laura Robertson, Andy Foulds, Natalie Hughes, Jim Busco and Susan Massey.

Part 2:  Thinking Outside the Box, 27 April – 9 May 2010

For the second part of The Royal Standard's contribution to Global Studio exhibition, Hamish McLain has initiated a group exhibition looking outside of his own painting practice, to see how artists working in other mediums realise their ideas. Featuring work by Andrew Bracey, Amelia Crouch, Michael Lent and Hamish McLain.

The exhibition will engage with issues of place and how experience effects our response to different environments, through painting, sculpture, video, text and photography. The four artists have been communicating through a blog to track the development of their ideas and explore shared concerns in their practices. Part 3: TRACE, 11 – 23 May 2010

TRACE, is the third part of The Royal Standard's contribution to Global Studio exhibition, curated by Laurence Payot. The exhibition questions the meaning of documentation in today’s art practice, where networks are extending globally, forcing artists to give access to their work beyond its local presentation.

The documentation of work (photography, sound, text, etc) travels through the channels of word of mouth, websites, catalogues, limited editions, often as a representative of the work, sometimes as the work itself, or even as evidence for a work that never happened.

The works presented reveals how documentation has played a vital role in art throughout the years, and how contemporary artists use the concept of documenting not only as a trace but as an integral part of their work.

Featuring:Karin Kihlberg (Sweden/UK) & Reuben Henry (UK),Aaron Head (UK), Leo Durand (France), Helen Brown (UK), Andrew Sunderland (UK), Aillie Rutherford (UK), Low Profile (UK), Rubric (UK), Laurence Payot (France/UK)

Part 4: The Tiny Touring Round The World Exhibition, 24 May - 6 June 2010

For the fourth part of The Royal Standard's contribution to Global Studio exhibition, The Tiny Touring Round The World Exhibition, curated by Kevin Hunt, is a collection of artworks and documentation generated through encounters with artists and curators on a recent trip across the globe.

"The Tiny Touring Round The World Exhibition saw a selection of art by Liverpool based artists travel across the globe within my backpack, disseminating these works in a variety of manners from the end of January until the start of May 2010. From Hong Kong to Brazil, via New Zealand, Los Angeles, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina, these small works in a range of media were exhibited temporarily, manifesting themselves in a variety of guises at various galleries, cities and public spaces across the globe that i visit during my travels.

Each time the project was exhibited, a work may have been produced or left behind, being placed within the collection of an artist, curator or gallerist i met in return for the donation of a work to be added to The Royal Standard's permanent collection or the assistance in the making of a new work in a constantly evolving maliable exhibition.

By pushing accepted notions of collection, acquisition, production and display the Tiny Touring Round The World Exhibition aims to realise new modes of engagement, simultaneously on a global and minute scale, working as an artist and curator within my current locality at any given time, whilst forging international links between Liverpool and abroad." - Kevin Hunt

Featuring the work of:

Liverpool based artists: Ailie Rutherford , Craig Atkinson , Emily Speed , Jemma Egan , Katherine Lloyd , Laurence Payot , Mike Carney , Nicki McCubbing , Ross Dalziel, Sam Venables

Part 5: Trap: The Matterhorn, 8 - 20 June 2010

The final part of The Royal Standard's contribution to Global Studio exhibition, curated by Jemma Egan. Be transported to the base of one of the most iconic mountains in the world, The Matterhorn. Here you will have the opportunity to pose in front of the stunning vista that will befall you and even better, have your photo taken with the equally iconic and heroic St Bernard Rescue dogs.

The exhibition will transport you to the seemingly ubiquitous, tourist trap, photo opportunities that sit alongside, opposite and in the viscinity of highly commercialised tourist attractions. The installation will raise questions about the authenticity of the commercialised tourist experience. Visitors are invited to visit the bogus attraction to help create a synthetic memory of their 'trip'.
