We are pleased to announce that Carla Scott Fullerton is The Royal Standard's 2011 Artist in Residence.
Carla Scott Fullerton’s practice is shaped by an interest in architecture: its history, materials and function. Her sensitivity to materials and awareness of the status and economy attached to their use forms the nucleus of a process of instinctive exploration composed of drawing and sculpture, each separate yet one often informing the other. She is particularly interested in architectural semiotics and how a building’s materials can express social or cultural codes as well as our interaction with a relationship to the built environment.
Fullerton works with heavy industrial materials such as cement and steel, allowing the materials to take on their own form. Devoid of their usual restrictions and through the irregular and unpredictable processes of pouring, the work is deliberately imperfect and free of the expected forms governed by the traditional notions of architecture.
After graduating from the Glasgow School of Art MFA programme in 2008, Scott Fullerton was awarded the Glasgow Sculpture Studios Fellowship. To date she has participated in a number of group shows, including You Can’t Hide Your Love Forever, Galerie LH, Paris, and several solo exhibitions including Cut Line at ten til ten. Glasgow and Lines and Pours, Chert, Berlin.
