Initiated in May 2009, InterCity MainLine is a collective of artists spread between Bristol and London. As well as collaborating together for shows and other artworks, their main group focus is a publication that both reflects on and provides them with a platform to collaborate with different artists and artist-led initiatives across the UK. NO WOMAN NO CRY The shows title is taken from a piece of work produced by one of the members of the group, this simple decision to use an existing title as almost a default, highlights the groups decision not to play within the role of curator or to try to pull together potentially “tenuously” linked practices but to clearly iterate that this is a peer of people who have been brought together under the banner of a similar ethos and drive. Not wanting to molly coddle and manipulate their works or it’s impetus into a thematic or curatorial mould. The works on show are the culmination of each members (and a couple of carefully invited participants) current practice, often playing with popular culture, outmoded technologies and timid trepidations into new ones the works on display will be about the world, of the world and for the world. NO WOMAN NO CRY will later be accompanied by a Liverpool version of their publication in collaboration with Liverpool based artists and artist led groups.
